Kansas City Art Institute
As the former Graphic Design Specialist I worked in the Marketing and Communications department. I was in charge of upholding brand standards, designing by request and adding to the graphic library.
In this role I worked on a variety of projects from Printed matter to Digital Assets. Collaborating with many people as I created the visual direction of each project. Below are a few projects I enjoyed creating.
2025 Admission Suite
The 2025 Admission Suite contains four deliverables which are The Viewbook, Preview Book, Sketchbook and Poster. These items are handed to potential students or accepted students. Creating an Art Direction that communicates both cohesive design and gives room for student work.
2024 Annual Presidents Report
When I began designing the report I looked at multiple ways the Institute’s typefaces, color palette and student artwork could work together causing too much contrast. Moving towards a direction that used the Sharp Serif Typeface “Ogg” and finding how it could work with San Serif headers. The brand's color palette in solids worked well in balancing contrast.
I then designed a visual style that was slightly influenced by magazines that worked as an Artbook as well. The direction partnered easily with the content, student work and features that would be included.
National Portfolio Day 2025
Thinking about how to design a posters for the National Portfolio Day events in different cities while including a wide range of student work. Although the first art direction was selected I enjoyed creating this version because of the appearance of a gallery wall, the layout and lastly the division of events by color. Taking the time to hand select all work included based on medium, color and style.
ArtPop 2025
This event is a signature tradition at the Kansas City Art Institute. Combining a multi-gallery experience, fashion show, Open Bars, Music and Food this event is annually anticipated with a stacked Donor List. Designing and executing the bulk of the marketing deliverables for this event I was tasked with carrying the previous brand but adding a twist which was well received.
KCAI School Seal
Given the honor to design the Official School seal for an art institution that has been around for 140 years, I selected subject matter that was both recognizable and cherished by the community. Leading with Vanderslice Hall felt correct knowing that it was both the heart of the campus but a building known by many if not all its alumni.
