Greetings
My name is Egil J. Enriquez-Gudiel. I am a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Photographer, Printer and Artist. I create visual ecosystems for clients who are in need of a brand. Freelancing or in house design I create, expand or manage brand guidelines across digital and printed spaces.
This takes my creative skills to aspects of design like website design, project management, social media content and much more. Please reach out if you’d like to know more about what services I offer.
Introduction
Wearing a variety of hats I began my creative journey in drawing and painting. I decided to move towards digital work after spending time creating graphite drawings with lines. This has been a major influence in my Illustrations and Design work. My Design process begins with pencil and paper. Moving through tasks like wire framing, illustrating or designing a simple logo helps me understand the client or project at a deeper level.

Drawing and Design
Fascinated by Greek mythology and Folklore of all kinds I began studying sculptures from classical antiquity. The soft shadows and close to none existing core shadows helped train my eyes to detect shapes and render in ways I never thought of. Helping me in creating depth, atmosphere, light, shadows and form.
Referring to this part of my creative journey because it created a large foundation on how I understand sequence in design. The correlations between traditional drawing and the process of design are philosophical in nature but function the same. Clients, intent, ideas being communicated and more.
Analog to Screens
The process from digital to screen can be quickly done or emphasized on. I have included an example of a quick drawing with graphite which would get client approval then moving to designing it digitally. (Graphite drawings are a fast and easy way to communicate possible directions to clients. )
After the sketch has been approved time is spent on creating the design, looking at the visual direction and matching all the clients needs to the design. This can also go through many editing rounds depending on the clients wishes. The final product is then sent to the preferred location where it can be printed or distributed.

Typography Studies
While studying at the Kansas City Art Institute I found the anatomical study of Typography, especially the Latin writing system intriguing. I have included some studies while referencing well known typefaces like Jenson, Bembo and Garamond. Using my class time to study what are known as Venetian typefaces within the typography community.
Work Horse Typeface
A typeface I designed while attending in the Fall of 2023. Naming it Work Horse because of the nature of the typeface. Designed to carry the weight of the headers and display type.
This typeface was based on undigitized typefaces from the 1700s. Scanning, vectorizing and transferring to paper to alternate I created the Work Horse. This part was critical because of the human movement compared to the grid based designs from computer software.
